Getting started with JavaScript for PL/SQL and APEX Developers

Hands-on workshop with Dan McGhan: preview

Published on: Category: News

On Friday, May 3rd, 2019, Qualogy, in collaboration with Smart4Solutions, will organize a hands-on workshop 'Getting started with JavaScript for PL/SQL and APEX Developers', with Oracle’s Developer Advocate Dan McGhan. In honor of Qualogy’s 20th anniversary, the workshop will be offered for free. Qualogy’s Menno Hoogendijk, Oracle ACE and APEX Consultant, knows Dan and will provide a preview of the event.

“Dan is a true authority in the field of APEX and JavaScript. Complex subjects are no problem for him. He discusses them in a fun and comprehensible manner. Aside from APEX and JavaScript, Dan works with HTML5, writes blogs, and is active on conferences and social media.”

About APEX

“APEX (Application Express) is a framework in the Oracle Database that allows you to build applications with data in tables incredibly fast. The biggest advantage of JavaScript in APEX is the full control over functionality. It means you can satisfy the customer’s wishes by delivering tailor-made solutions. Of course, the challenge will be to keep your applications manageable in the future.”

Bigger role JavaScript

“Nowadays, customers struggle with new components like the Interactive Grid or the TreeView. Because a lot of available components on a page have so many options, it is hard to keep everything declarative. And if you want to build plug-ins for APEX? Then you simply need more JavaScript knowledge.”

About the workshop

“The workshop is definitely interesting for APEX and PL/SQL developers who want to know more about JavaScript. Even for developers without any prior knowledge, I recommend this event. It is a hands-on workshop. You will need a laptop, and you will get instructions beforehand. At the end of the day, you will leave the workshop with a sound basic knowledge of JavaScript. Which you can immediately implement in APEX.

The event is divided into multiple components of an hour:

  • JavaScript-introduction
  • Working with DOM and jQuery
  • Working with events and http APIs
  • Adding JavaScript to APEX-applications
  • Configuring APEX-components with JavaScript

I think it will be an informative, but mostly interactive day. Dan knows how to adjust his talks to his audience. Because it is a hands-on event, you’ll immediately get to work with the matter. And if you get stuck? Do ask questions to Dan, our APEX and JavaScript professionals, or each other.”
