Ready for a week at Oracle CloudWorld!

Published on: Category: News

After 2 years of not having the annual conference from Oracle, next week 17 October the event will start! But there are a few things that have changed…

Event Name

Formerly this event was known as Oracle OpenWorld and JavaOne, where Oracle revealed and announced its innovations for the coming year. On every level there were announcements, bigger and smaller which were interesting to know, and to base the strategies and roadmaps for our customers who are using some form of Oracle – and Java technology.

The new name is called Oracle Cloudworld, which, as you might expect reveals the Cloud strategy of Oracle. Since a few years Oracle had become a more important player in the field, whereas it wasn’t for a long time.

Besides those announcements, there are lot technical sessions, a lot done by Oracle itself, a few done by none Oracle Employees. A selected group of the Oracle ACE program, which are NOT Oracle Employees but independent community leaders and advocates, will present of their knowledge to the attendees.

All Oracle ACE directors are invited at OCW, receiving a full complimentary pass. I will go there too, partially for the Oracle ACE program, partially as representative from Qualogy as an Oracle Partner.

Event Location

The location of the event also has changed. In the previous years it was held at Silicon Valley, San Francisco, at Moscone Center, where half of the center was completely transformed into Oracle…

This year, the event will be held in “Viva Las Vegas!”, at Caesars Forum Conference Center. That’s far away from Silicon Valley, but still I expect it to be an amazing venue.

Partner Success Summit

As an Oracle Partner, we’re invited on Monday 17 October to the Partner Success Summit, where a few VP’s will tell about updates on Oracle’s strategy, about Co-innovation for customer solutions, Joint go-to-market for business impact and Customer success; so in fact aspects of being a partner with Oracle.

Afterwards there will be a networking reception where I hope to meet some Dutch or regional partners to talk with.

During the conference Oracle has specialized partner sessions where focus lies on partner involvement at certain levels, and the so-called Xcellerator Hub to engage partners with Oracle and other Industry experts.

Keynotes and Sessions

As Oracle now is pushing its involvement and sponsoring the Redbull Racing Team, a lot around the conference will handle about racing, and the IT build around all of that. One of the keynote speakers will be Christian Horner, CEO of Oracle Red Bull Racing. Furthermore there are keynotes of the well-known CEO’s and CTO, Safra Katz and of course Larry Ellison, although he only has one session scheduled, which is far less than the previous years.

There are 1000+ sessions, so impossible to see them all, that’s why a little cherry picking, based on my own technical focus, and the customers we serve:

  • Oracle Database
  • Oracle to Azure
  • Java Microservices
  • Managed Kubernetes
  • GraalVM/Micronaut
  • Blockchain
  • Data driven technologies
  • DevSecOps

In between, I will also try to meet some VP’s for a one to one about technology, like the VP of MySQL and Linux.

Oracle ACE Program

The other part of my program involves activities of the Oracle ACE Program. I will help with activities around the ACE Community Lounge, such as providing swag, knowledge and talk with attendees.

Other topics on the program are: the annual ACE photoshoot and ACE dinner, where all ACES around the world get together and exchange experiences.

One highlight where I’m really looking forward to, is the ACE trip, organized by Oracle, which will be a bus tour to the Grand Canyon. This will take place on Friday.

Other activities around the event

Besides all the sessions there are so called Demo grounds where vendors in technology showcase their latest innovations and gadgets, short live demo’s where you can chat with product managers and get a glimpse of all kinds of new stuff. This area you also can pickup swag, or participate in some games and win a gadget.

On Wednesday there is the appreciation event, where as usual some artists perform on stage, that’s a real happening too. This years performance features the Steve Miller Band.

So it’s a jampacked week full of content and fun; hopefully some time left to see Las Vegas!
