Rob Lasonder is looking forward to Tech Experience 2018

The second edition of Tech Experience will be held on June 7-8 at the Rijtuigenloods in Amersfoort. This is the only event that covers the entire Oracle Technology Stack. Four Qualogy colleagues were invited to the conference as guest speakers, including Rob Lasonder. What does he expect?

Colleague Rob Lasonder is coming to the Netherlands specifically for Tech Experience. Rob works as an Oracle Exadata Specialist in Cardiff, Wales.

“In Wales, I was involved with the implementation of Exadata and the ZFS Storage Appliance. It's nice to exchange thoughts on Oracle Cloud computing with fellow colleagues in the Netherlands. I'm curious to see which direction it will go in. Will we transition fully to the cloud or will we keep a kind of hybrid situation, where part of the infrastructure is hosted on premise?”

Cloud challenges

During the event, Rob hopes to learn where clients stand in relation to Oracle Cloud. He also wants to know how other professionals respond.

“For the past ten years I've focused on implementing engineered systems for clients. The question is: will this be necessary in the future? I don't really see the development as a threat, because the cloud has its own challenges. I expect things like security, configuration management, capacity management and compliancy to become more important. That's what we as IT specialists should have answers to.”

Focus on database

For Rob, this edition of Tech Experience is all about the Oracle Database. During one of the parallel sessions on June 7, Rob will explain how a database is transferred from AIX to Exadata with GoldenGate, a data migration tool that replicates databases in other locations.

“The best thing about GoldenGate is its flexibility. It has lots of configuration options and is suitable for non-Oracle databases as well. My presentation will appeal most to database administrators, developers and architects. This group is often involved in data migrations and the session is a great introduction to GoldenGate. I'll help them determine whether GoldenGate is a suitable tool for their total cloud strategy.”

Knowlegde development

For Rob, Tech Experience is a great opportunity to learn more about Oracle 18c and the use of Docker in the database.

“My must-see sessions are DBA Does Docker and Playing with Oracle on Docker Containers. I'm also looking forward to Oracle's keynote speaker discuss the Oracle cloud strategy.”
