Data has become ubiquitous in professional sports. For instance, in football, automatic player tracking systems record the exact positions of players on the field, using cameras or sensors.
Positional data constitutes a valuable source of information on the fitness and performance of players, team dynamics, tactics, playing style, and eventually the patterns that lead to goals. In order to make it easy for team managers and their staff to extract valuable insights from the large volumes of positional data, new analysis and visualization tools are needed.
That’s why Qualogy has developed FPAD, Football Performance Analysis Dashboard, in close collaboration with the Royal Dutch Football Association and the Sports Data Center at Leiden University. The application displays the player positions and the ball as moving dots on an interactive dashboard. Using smart algorithms, the moving dots are transformed into a large number of time-varying performance indicators relevant to coaches and technical staff.
