The must-have for every Oracle Database developer: Modern Oracle Database Programming. Co-written by Qualogy’s Patrick Barel.
In March 2022, colleague Patrick Barel was asked by fellow professional Alex Nuijten to write a book together. Patrick accepted the challenge. And now, a year later, the time has come. Both gentlemen have their own book in hand. Modern Oracle Database Programming is a must for every Oracle Database developer who wants to know more about the newer features of Oracle Database. And so is available now!
Alex and Patrick have known each other for more than 15 years. Since getting acquainted during the OPP conference in Chicago, they have, among other things, worked for a period at the same employer and have always stayed in touch. So how does that work, writing together?
Alex was approached by a publisher last year asking him to write a book. Alex: “My first reaction was ‘No’ because I know how much work that is. Then came the doubt and finally the conclusion. I’m going to do it but not alone.’ So Alex asked Patrick to write together.
Patrick says, “We each took care of several chapters. As soon as I finished a chapter, I sent it to Alex to check for clarity and truth. And vice versa, Alex did the same. We both have a lot of knowledge of both SQL and PL/SQL, so we can complement each other well. We can also spar about ideas. If one couldn’t figure something out, the other offered help.’
When asked if there are plans for another book, Alex replies, “No, at the moment there are no such plans. But as I’ve said twice before, “Writing a book, I’ll never do it again.” So who knows …
