Schiedam municipality issues RVV waivers for pedestrian area in Hoogstraat using ParQ (GPS) by March 15, 2023
Schiedam Municipality has been using ParQ to apply for and manage parking permits for residents and businesses since September 2022. In October 2022 the request came from the municipality whether it was also possible to arrange RVV exemptions through ParQ. We reviewed the requirements of the municipality and the conclusion was that with 2 small additions we could use the system for this purpose. These additions were added by us and after the municipality placed the cameras and signs, the operation was successfully tested this week.
Starting Monday (March 13), the municipality will begin camera surveillance, and starting today (March 9), residents and businesses can already apply for a waiver.
The municipality of Schiedam would like to have a livable, healthy and safe inner city. Therefore, part of the inner city is pedestrianized. Drivers of trucks, delivery vans, passenger cars, motorcycles and mopeds and motorcycles are only allowed to drive here at walking pace at certain times for loading and unloading. Yet outside these times, motorized traffic regularly drives through the pedestrian area.
Entrepreneurs, residents and visitors in the Hoogstraat are bothered by this. Therefore, on Monday, March 13, the trial of camera enforcement of license plates in Hoogstraat and part of Broersveld will start. Motorized traffic is only allowed to drive in Hoogstraat between 7:00 and 11:00 in the morning and between 17:30 and 19:00 in the evening. In the first month, violators will not yet receive a fine, only a warning letter on behalf of the municipality. After this month, offenders from the second offense will receive a fine of € 150 from the Central Judicial Collection Agency (excluding € 9 administrative costs). In some cases, drivers of trucks, vans, passenger cars, motorcycles and mopeds and motorcycles can apply for an RVV dispensation to drive and load and unload in the street outside the window times.
