Oracle Integration Cloud at the municipality of Rotterdam

Pam Koertshuis is a Solution Architect at the municipality of Rotterdam. There, her responsibilities include projects related to Oracle e-Business Suite (eBS). In 2019, the municipality faced a challenge: to reconnect the procurement platform Negometrix (cloud) with eBS (on-premise). Due to an upgrade of eBS, this had to be done within 2 months. The municipality chose Oracle Integration Cloud (OIC) as the solution. Qualogy helped with the implementation.

The procurement platform of the municipality’s procurement department was already fully automated. But without the right new link of cloud application Negometrix with Oracle eBS, the data from Negometrix would have to be entered manually again. So haste was required.

Availability of the solution
Pam explains, “2 months is not much time for the implementation of a suitable solution. Therefore, fast availability of the platform was high on our wish list. After an extensive inventory of different solutions, the choice fell on integration platform Oracle Integration Cloud.

Besides immediate availability, this platform also offers standard adapters. For example, the eBS adapter in OIC makes the link between cloud application Negometrix and Oracle eBS quickly possible and even easier.’

Connectivity agent
With the ‘connectivity agent’ in OIC, on-premise applications – such as the eBS environment of the municipality of Rotterdam – can be securely connected to the cloud. OIC is also easy to use thanks to its web-based user interface.

Obtaining additional knowledge

After choosing OIC, the municipality sought additional knowledge about the integration platform. For this, the municipality enlisted the help of Qualogy. Pam explains, “Qualogy consultant Richard Velden helped us with the implementation of OIC. With Richard we got a lot of up-to-date knowledge, a fast worker and someone who thinks along with us. Richard was our permanent point of contact and helped us together with his colleagues.”

First link with a cloud application
Gemeente Rotterdam had not previously linked a cloud application to eBS via OIC. Pam: “With cloud applications, security is a hot issue. Negometrix was the first link with a cloud application via OIC. Then you run into security issues such as: how do you ensure that only the right employees can call on the right services?

Qualogy solved this for us by implementing IP whitelisting in the OIC environment. In fact, this functionality is not included by default. Now it meets our security requirements.”

A pleasant collaboration
Gemeente Rotterdam and Qualogy are no strangers to each other. And this project has been successfully completed again. Both sides like the cooperation. Pam: “Qualogy stands for quality. It is a knowledge house with a lot of Oracle experience. That works very pleasantly together.”
