The municipality of Schiedam issues RVV exemptions for the pedestrian area in Hoogstraat using ParQ (GPS) as of March 15, 2023
Since September 2022, the municipality of Schiedam has been using ParQ for requesting and managing parking permits for residents and businesses. In October 2022, the municipality asked whether RVV exemptions could also be arranged via ParQ. We assessed the municipal requirements and concluded that with two small additions, the system could support this as well. We implemented these additions, and after the municipality installed the cameras and signage, the operation was successfully tested this week.
From Monday (March 13), the municipality will start camera enforcement, and from today (March 9), residents and businesses can already apply for an exemption.
The municipality of Schiedam aims for a livable, healthy, and safe city center. That is why part of the city center is designated as a pedestrian zone. Drivers of trucks, vans, passenger cars, motorcycles, and mopeds are only allowed to drive there at walking speed during specific time windows for loading and unloading. However, outside these hours, motorized traffic still regularly passes through the pedestrian area.
Entrepreneurs, residents, and visitors in Hoogstraat experience nuisance from this. Therefore, on Monday, March 13, a trial with camera license-plate enforcement starts in Hoogstraat and part of Broersveld. Motorized traffic is only allowed in Hoogstraat between 7:00 and 11:00 in the morning and between 17:30 and 19:00 in the evening. During the first month, offenders will not receive a fine yet, only a warning letter from the municipality. After that month, offenders will receive a €150 fine from the Central Judicial Collection Agency from the second offense onward (excluding €9 administration costs). In some cases, drivers of trucks, vans, passenger cars, motorcycles, and mopeds can apply for an RVV exemption to drive through the street and load/unload outside the designated time windows.
