A must for every Oracle Database developer: Modern Oracle Database Programming. Co-written by Qualogy's Patrick Barel.
In March 2022, colleague Patrick Barel was asked by fellow professional Alex Nuijten to co-author a book. Patrick accepted the challenge. And now, one year later, the moment has arrived. Both gentlemen now have the book in their hands. Modern Oracle Database Programming is a must for every Oracle Database developer who wants to learn more about the newer capabilities of Oracle Database. It is now available!
Alex and Patrick have known each other for more than fifteen years. Since meeting at the OPP conference in Chicago, they have, among other things, worked for the same employer for a period and always stayed in touch. To spar about IT challenges, but also, as Patrick says, 'to talk nonsense.' They already had experience writing together through several articles in the 'Puzzling with SQL' series for the magazine of the Oracle User Group in the Netherlands (NLOUG).

How does co-authoring actually work?
Last year, Alex was approached by a publisher with the request to write a book. Alex: 'My first reaction was 'No' because I know how much work it is. Then came doubt and eventually the conclusion: I will do it, but not alone.' So Alex asked Patrick to write together.
Patrick says about this: 'Each of us took responsibility for several chapters. As soon as I finished a chapter, I sent it to Alex to review for clarity and accuracy. Alex did the same the other way around. We both have extensive knowledge of SQL and PL/SQL, so we complement each other well. We can also spar on ideas. If one of us got stuck, the other offered help.'
When asked whether there are plans for a next book, Alex answers: 'No, at this moment there are no such plans. But as I have said twice before: 'Writing a book, I'll never do that again.' So who knows...
Modern Oracle Database Programming can now be ordered via Amazon. More information about the book and direct ordering can be found here.
